BMI : Solves your weight related problems

What is BMI?:

Body Mass Index (BMI) is calculated by measuring a person’s body weight (in Kilograms) and then dividing by that person’s height in meters squared. For example an adult individual weighing 60 kg with a height of 1.63 meters has a BMI of 60 / (1.63)2 = 22.58. Here we are considering body weight and height of a person to determine whether he is overweight though it is height independent, such that the tall and short people of same proportions have a similar BMI.

Table# 1 Shows the internationally accepted range of BMIs in Adult (above the age of 18)

Table# 1

Body Mass Index (weight/height2) kg/m2

Underweight < 18.5
Normal 18.5-24.9
Overweight 25.0-29.9
Obese 30.0-39.9
Morbid obese > 40

Losing weight:

It is not possible to lose 5 to 10 lbs within a couple of days. There are some drugs that may reduce weight for a few months, at best. But if the problems lie with the life-style and hormonal disorder, the drugs can’t do any good. There are some ways that may help if one is trying to lose his/her weight in a systematic way.

  • Diet: Diet controlling is not the way to lose weight. One must intake adequate amount of food in order to get energy to perform his/her daily pursuit. Its so easy to get how much energy do you require. Multiply 45 with your weight in Kilogram and you will get the amount of energy you must provide your body with in 24 hours (in kilocalories). And increased amount of intake of dietary fibers will make you fell less hungry and prevent constipation, too.
  • Discipline: It means

                           Proper sleep

                           No tobacco

                           No alcohol

Less Sweet, Chocolate and ice cream

                            Moderate to Heavy exercise.

Drugs and surgery to reduce weights is only suggested when a person becomes Morbid obese or the situation is complicated by some other disease.
